Festival of Paying Homage to Phrathat Chae Hang at Nan
In the past, Nan was a small city which full of Buddhist architecture, it also reflected the combination of art and culture, the relationship of politics, rules, religion and various fields including Sukhothai, Lanna, Phukam and Langchang and still preserve the identity of its local, way of lives that spend on the way of Buddhism as can be seen from the religious ceremonies and many traditions which are held throughout the year.
Wat Phrathat Chae Hang is the royal temple which is a holy sanctuary located on the hill east of Nan River which it used to be the center of Nan after moving from Pua. Phrathat is the pagoda in bell shaped. The form is assumed that it has influence from Chedi Phra That Hari Phunchai. The way up to Phrathat is designed in the shape of Naga, the great serpent, which is the identity of art in Nan.
Festival of Paying Homage to Phrathat Chae Hant will be held during 9-15 March 2014 at Wat Phrathat Chae Hang, Amphur Maung , Nan province. The Objective of this festival is to pay homage to Phrathat Chae Hang. The highlight of the festival is the cultural procession to pay homage to the pagoda on 9th March afternoon.
